The Marais needs no introduction these days !
This well preserved oldest neighborhood of Paris is filled up with buildings from the 16th and 17thC, featuring narrow streets, fine architecture, boutiques, antique shops, restaurants, cafés. Strict building laws protect its authenticity. This is where Parisians chose to wander on weekends ! The centerpiece is, of course, the Place des Vosges, 200 feet from from the apartment, This is the purest example of 17thC architecture with its arcaded facade set around a central park with trees and benches - great for a picnic lunch ! Easy walking distance to the Picasso , Beaubourg (the Pompidou center) , and Carnavalet Museums, Bastille Opera, Ile St Louis, Notre Dame, Ile de la Cité, and much more ! Just down the road is a wonderful selection of specialist food shops (baker, deli, cheese, fish, wine...) in the very best French tradition!
